Opens at Space 301 on Cathedral Square

Mobile, Alabama: Space 301 is pleased to announce the opening of “No, Seriously: Humor and Happiness in Contemporary Art” Curated by Jason Guynes, Professor of Art and Chairperson, Department of Visual Arts, The University of South Alabama.

This exhibition is a collection of fun and humorous works, as varied, as understated, as over-the-top, as the individual artists who created them. The jokes may be subtle, but they’re in there; or, the comedy may be apparent while containing a very sober underlying moral. In any event, this exhibition takes a serious look at the lighter side of the human experience in the halcyon days of a Mobile summer leaving all the angst for the darker, colder, and more somber months ahead. The public is invited to attend the opening reception of No, Seriously: Humor and Happiness in Contemporary Art on Friday, July 10th from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Space 301, 301 Conti Street in downtown Mobile. Curator talk by Jason Guynes will be from 7pm – 7:30pm in the 3rd floor Auditorium.

The entire collection of No, Seriously: Humor and Happiness in Contemporary Art works
will remain on exhibit at Space 301 through Sunday, September 6, 2009. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m. and extended hours on the second Friday night each month. Space 301 is free of admission, wheelchair accessible and open to the public.
